Location
Port Henderson is a small crofting village near Gairloch in Wester Ross. The best way to travel in the Highlands is by car (Hertz and Thrift rental in Inverness) - the railway doesn't access the North-West, and there isn't a very regular bus service. The main hub of access to the area is the city of Inverness, which has a national airport, bus and rail links and trunk roads to Aberdeen in the East and Perth to the south.
Directions from Inverness
From Inverness, take the A9 over the Moray Firth on the Kessock Bridge, and at the first roundabout (approx 7 miles), take the 2nd exit (A835) posted for Ullapool. At the 2nd roundabout, about 4 miles, again take the 2nd exit, keeping to the A835 Ullapool road. After 13 miles, take the junction to the left onto the A832 signposted for Gairloch. After 16 miles you should reach Achnasheen, at the small roundabout bear straight ahead - the 2nd exit.
Follow the A832 along the lochside, over the dramatic pass of Glen Docherty with views along Loch Maree to the Minch, through the village of Kinlochewe and alongside Loch Maree itself. 18 miles after leaving Kinlochewe, the road winds down the steep sided Glen Kerry, as the road levels out, watch out for hump-back bridge on the left with a large sign post for Badachro, Port Henderson and Redpoint (B8056).
Cross the bridge, and follow this scenic road along the southern coastline of the Gairloch. After passing through Badachro with it's sheltered bay and Inn, the road enters Port Henderson and begins to climb up a short hill. Just as you reach the top of this climb, the cottage is on the right hand side, just off the road. This journey can be completed in a couple of hourse, but leave plenty time to stop and admire the scenery along the way!
